Frequently Asked Questions
Guidelines for submission to the UTSPS Critique Bureau
Individual poems:
A UTSPS member may submit up to twelve poems annually for critique. These should be in
batches not to exceed four poems each. Fewer poems may be sent.
Poems should be submitted on standard white paper with one poem per page. The poems should
be sent in a standard business envelop, with a SASE of the same size enclosed. The Director
either critiques the poems, or forwards them to one of the volunteer staff. UTSPS pays the
postage for this forwarding. At least one month should be allowed for this critiquing process.
Manuscript:
A UTSPS member poet may submit a poetry manuscript ONCE per year enclosing two envelops
large enough for the manuscript. One envelope, with no address and sufficient postage, will be
used to send the manuscript to the poet critiquing it. The other envelop should be self-addressed
with sufficient postage for the critic to return the manuscript to the author.
Presently there is a charge of $15.00 for this service. At least one month should be allowed for
this critiquing process. Book manuscripts should not be sent to the Critique Bureau between
November 1 and February 1.
In the past the manuscript has been critiqued by a member of the UTSPS Book
of the Year Laureates who has been
contacted, and is willing to take on the task of the critique.
